RAINELLE - Brenda Lee LaFon Crookshanks, 40, died Monday, June 29, 1998 at her home following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 27, 1957, in Libertyville, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Bill L. and Verna "Vickie" Nolan LaFon.
Mrs. Crookshanks attended several schools in Illinois before becoming a 1975 graduate of Greenbrier East High School, Fairlea, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, belonged to the Math Club and Math Team, was listed in 1975 Who's Who Among High School Students and graduated with honors.
She was formerly employed by Kellwood Corp. and was employed by Faith Broadcasting Co., Rainelle, until she became ill.
Mrs. Crookshanks was a homemaker and did volunteer work at the schools, was a former member of the Eastern Greenbrier Jaycettes, Eastern Greenbrier Jaycees and The Poor Boys Car Club.
She was a member and past matron of Rainelle Chapter No. 137, Order of the Eastern Star. She also served the West Virginia Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star as Grand Ruth from 1993 to 1994, and was a member of the grand choir from 1994 to 1995.
Mrs. Crookshanks was a member of Rainelle United Methodist Church and sang in the choir.
Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Harry Dale Crookshanks Jr., whom she married June 14, 1975; a daughter, Holly Dayle Crookshanks, stationed with the Army at Fort Lee, Va.; a son, Harry Dale Crookshanks III at home; three brothers, Ronnie LaFon and his wife, Susan, of Crofton, Ky., Pat LaFon of Des Plains, Ill., and Billy LaFon and his wife, Mary, of Spring Grove, Ill.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Rainelle United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robert G. Stoddard and Bob Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
