FAIRLEA - Willis K. "Willie" Burns, 82, of Fairlea, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Greenbrier Medical Center following an unexpected illness.
Born Oct. 2, 1921, at Clintonville, he was the son of the late Oliver Nelson Burns and Laura E. Loudermilk Burns.
He was a member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church and a retired employee from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio. Following his retirement, he returned to Greenbrier County, residing in Fairlea.
He was an active volunteer at the Senior Citizen Center in Fairlea as well as the Lindside Senior Citizen Center. Mr. Burns was a World War II veteran from the U.S. Navy. He also held membership in American Legion Post 69 in Lewisburg.
Mr. Burns was an avid golfer and most recently became interested in the restoration of an old automobile.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Pauline Ruth Burns, on Dec. 11, 1991; three sisters, Wadena Spitzer, Winona Callison and Faye Heffner; and two brothers, Wilton "Witt" Burns and W.G. "Sonny" Burns.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandy Vineyard and husband, Dick, of Port Orange, Fla., and Linda Baird and husband, Tim, of Mount Gilead, Ohio; a brother, W.O. Burns and wife, Gail, of Lewisburg; three sisters, Juanita Woollard of Rainelle, Wilma Johns of Dublin, Va., and Jane Totten and husband, Edsel, of Akron, Ohio; sister-in-law, Pat Burns of Fairlea; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Virginia Bradley of Lindside.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lewisburg United Methodist Church with Dr. Patricia Jarvis and the Rev. Michael Waide officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at McCraw Funeral Home, Lewisburg.
