KIEFFER ? Mildred L. Crookshanks Hunter, 91, of Kieffer, passed away Monday morning, July 28, 2008, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness.
Born April 23, 1917, at Kieffer, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and T. Mae Crane Crookshanks.
Mrs. Hunter was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church at Kieffer, and enjoyed quilting, gardening and helping others.
She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and a homemaker.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Jennings Hunter, in 1993; a daughter, Garnet Gilkeson; three sons, Gary, Gene and Granville Hunter; two sisters, Margie Hunter and Velma Curtis; two brothers, Charles and Arvel Crookshanks; and three granddaughters.
Survivors include four daughters, Gilda Cary and husband, Ed, of Crawley, Galena Knapp and husband, Tim, of Rupert, Gwenda Heaster and husband, Doug, of Crawley, and Gala Hunter of Kieffer; daughter-in-law, Betty Hunter of Kieffer; four sons, Gilmer Hunter of Kieffer, Gaynel Hunter and wife, Linda, of Kieffer, Glen Hunter and wife, Dorothy, of Crawley and Gerald Hunter and wife, Virginia, of Crawley; 28 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and especially her lady friends whom she talked to every day.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, Kieffer, W.Va., with Pastor Gary Eisenman officiating. Burial will follow at Burns Cemetery, Kieffer Road.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
