An illness of six months was fatal Friday to William Floyd Shawver, 83, general manager of the roofing firm of William F. Shawver Sons Co. at 507 Capitol St. He died at his home at 228 Bradford St. at 1:40 p.m. Mr. Shawver was born July 8, 1862, in Rupert and came to Charleston in 1890. He established his business in 1893, first dealing in hardware, tinware and other merchandise, but in 1918 sold all except the roofing and sheet metal departments to what is now known as the Southern Hardware Co. His wife, the former Annie E. Amick of Corliss, died in October, 1941. Mr. Shawver was a member of the Masonic Blue lodge, the Scottish Rite bodies and the Baptist Temple. Survivors include a son, Glenn Lake Shawver of Charleston; two daughters Mrs. F. E. Rectenwald of Charleston and Mrs. R. C. Monaghan of Beaumont, Tex.; a brother, Lee Shawver of Corliss: two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Neff of Portsmouth, O., and Mrs. Dora Harrah of Ansted; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. The Simpson mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
