SMOOT \emdash Freddie "Freda" Sparks, 72, of Smoot, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at her home, following a short illness.
Born April 18, 1939, in Vale, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Mary Fox Houchins.
She had worked at The Greenbrier and the Kellwood Plant, but was a homemaker most of her life. Freda was a member of the Smoot Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Cecil Robert Sparks in January of 2011, and a son-in-law, Kerry Holliday whom she loved as a son.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Sherry Ann Holliday of Smoot, and Sharon Lee Bradley and husband, Jeff of Crawley; six grandchildren, Robert Holliday and Crisey of Smoot, Steve Osborne and Shannon of Hines, Heath Holliday and Tarra of Smoot, Patrick Holliday and Kelly of Smoot, Kerrie Ann Weikle and Ben of Union, Tara Lachele Holliday and Madison of Smoot; eight great-grandchildren, Haley, Karli, Alexa, Kerry, Abigail, Seamus, Lindsey and Cameron; two sisters, Glenna Queen and Charles of Lexington, N.C. and Nancy Craft of Lexington, N.C.; four brothers, Isaac Houchins and Doralea of Dawson, Arthur Houchins and Barbara of Lexington, N.C. Charles Ward of Smoot and Chester Houchins and Callie of Winston-Salem, N.C., numerous nieces and nephews, and her special furry friend, Pebbles.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with the Rev. Jim Luchsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, June 22, 2011, at the funeral home.
