Walter Beitz Jr., 82, of Beckley, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness. He was born Oct. 6, 1920, at Crawley. Mr. Beitz was a World War II Veteran, having served in Europe and Normandy as a combat engineer for the 291st and the 961st Battalions. He was a heavy equipment operator for the surface coal mining industry and a member of Amwell Baptist Church of Rupert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Beitz Sr. and Carma Crane Beitz; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Beitz. Survivors include his wife, Ruth E. Armstrong Beitz of Beckley; a son, Joseph Walter Beitz of Beckley; a sister, Jo Ann Judy and husband, Lloyd, of Michigan; a brother, Julian Beitz and wife, Beatrice, of Rupert; a granddaughter, Tara Taylor and husband, Richard, of Beckley; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Taylor of Beckley. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle with the Rev. Leroy Crane and Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Entombment will follow in Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintoniville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Arrangements by Wallace & Wallace of Rainelle.
