H. D. Groves, Prominent Retired Teacher, Is Dead
SUMMERSVILLE, June 7 \emdash Homer David Groves, 72, prominent retired teacher of Summersville died early this morning in a Richwood hospital following a brief illness.
He attended Nicholas County schools, Marshall College, University of Indiana and was graduated from West Virginia University.
He was head of the agricultural department of Marshall college from 1917 to 1924 and was principal of Tyler County High School from 1914 to 1917. He later taught at Cowen High School and was principal of Nicholas County High School from 1929 to 1936 when he retired.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. A. E. Burnside, of Milton; Mrs. C. E. Zable, of Youngstown, Ohio and Mrs. Harold B. Hughes, of Summersville and one sister, Mrs. Oscar Neal, of Canvas.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Summersville Memorial Methodist church with Rev. J. E. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Groves cemetery.
The body will remain at the D. R. Simons Mortuary until one hour prior to the funeral when it will be removed to the church.
